Comp. Public Administration
POSC 4393/ MLPOS 6393
Instructor: Dr. Jon Taylor

Course Description: In a world of increased interdependence and globalization, good governance is increasingly a concern for both the global community and international organizations. The purpose of this course is to examine public administration with a comparative perspective, using China as a case example.  This course includes a field study in China, which takes place in June 2012. Topics include the history of comparative public administration, a framework for comparison, cultural context in examining public administration systems, Beijing’s governance system, the role of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in administration of the Party-State, and good governance practices.

Perspectives on Modern China

The course begins with China’s forced opening to the West after the Opium Wars and concludes with China’s transition at the start of the 21st Century.
