Requirements for Certified Teachers Seeking Additional Credentials |
Bilingual Education (12 hours) Supplemental Certificate
This endorsement may be added to any valid Texas Teacher Certificate. Candidates must complete the following courses:
- EDUC 5314 Theories of Second Language Acquisition
- BIED 5332 Instructional Strategies for the Content Areas
in Bilingual Education
- BIED 5362 Techniques of Teaching ESL
- BIED 5364 Spanish Language Arts for the Spanish
Dominant Child
Candidates must also complete a Spanish language proficiency examination (TOPT) and teach in a Texas Education Agency approved bilingual program for one year. |
English as a Second Language (12 hours) Supplemental Certificate
This endorsement may be added to any valid Texas Teacher Certificate. Candidates must complete the following courses:
- EDUC 5314 Theories of Second Language Acquisition
- BIED 5333 Applied Linguistics
- BIED 5336 Instructional Strategies for the Content Areas in English as a Second Language
- BIED 5362 Techniques of Teaching ESL
Candidates must teach in a Texas Education Agency approved English as a Second Language setting for one year. |
Special Education (24 hours) Supplemental Certificate
Graduate students in regular education desiring to add special education as a teaching field must complete the following:
EDUC 5339 Human Growth and Development
EDUC 5320 Exceptionality in Children and Youth
EDUC 5322 Theory and Behavior of Students with Emotional Disturbance
EDUC 5324 Practicum in Teaching Students with Emotional Disturbances
EDUC 5331 Differentiating Instruction
EDUC 5345 Theories and Approaches to Teaching Students with Mild Disabilities
EDUC 5346 Remediation Techniques for the Mildly Disabled
EDUC 5349 Practicum in Teaching the Mildly Disabled |
