MASTER IN LIBERAL ARTS
Degree Plan
  1. To fulfill MLA degree requirements, a total of 36 credit hours must be completed with an overall grade point average of “B” (3.0 GPA) or better.
  2. The MLA Program requires either 36 semester hours without a research paper or project, or 30 semester hours plus a research paper or project (for 6 additional semester hours).
  3. At least 9 credit hours must be taken from graduate seminars specifically designed for the MLA Program. Normally one or more of these courses, which bear the MLMLA designation, will be offered each Fall, Spring and Summer semesters. (Note that the following courses will not count towards the seminar requirement -- MLMLA 7388, 7389, 7398, and 7399.)
  4. A minimum of 18 credit hours in a specific discipline (or an area of study) constitutes a disciplinary concentration. A student may take a maximum of 21 credit hours in the concentration. Students may also opt to pursue an interdisciplinary concentration by combining courses from multiple disciplines or across areas of study.
  5. A maximum of 6 credit hours may come from “professional” areas; namely, the Cameron School of Business and the School of Education.
  6. A maximum of 6 credit hours may be transferred from graduate work successfully completed at other accredited institutions. Students must have achieved at least a grade of “B” (3.0 grade points for each credit) in the courses for which they desire transfer credit. This process is not automatic and a student must petition this request for transfer of credit in order for the courses to count towards the MLA degree.
