This lecture is in memory of Dr. James F. Considine and made possible through the generosity of the John W. and Alida M. Considine Foundation and the Strake Foundation, Houston, Texas.
Most Reverend Charles J. Chaput, O.F.M. Cap., a Kansas native and member of the Prairie Band Potawatomi tribe, entered the Capuchin Franciscans in 1965 and was ordained a priest in 1970. Pope John Paul II appointed him bishop of Rapid City, South Dakota, in 1988 and Archbishop of Denver, Colorado, in 1997. He served for three years as a White House-appointed Commissioner with the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF). He also served as an official U.S. delegate to the 2005 Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) conference on “Anti-Semitism and Other Forms of Intolerance” in Cordoba, Spain. He is the author of Living the Catholic Faith: Rediscovering the Basics (Servant) and Render Unto Caesar: Serving the Nation by Living Our Catholic Beliefs in Political Life (Doubleday).
