Why Communication?
The Communication Department at UST prepares students for careers in journalism, public relations, broadcasting and communication. UST’s approach is both professional and theoretical, combining theories of communication with practical application. The coursework has a strong liberal arts foundation and combines classroom education with real-world experience.
A wide variety of writing, editing, reporting, and speaking/communication courses are offered, including:

Service Learning
The 36-hour degree program also has Service Learning opportunities such as the Innocence Investigations. Students receive experience in interviewing witnesses, searching public records and reading court transcripts through this program affiliated with a nonprofit organization dedicated to overturning convictions of men and women wrongfully imprisoned in the state of Texas.
Internships
UST Communication students are required to participate in internships while pursing an undergraduate degree. The campus is located near downtown, the Texas Medical Center and the Galleria, making it an ideal location for internships with local media, businesses and nonprofit organizations.
