Our drama major here is unique and in keeping with liberal arts tradition of the university. Our program within the department of Fine and Performing Arts Department is small. We have an average of 15-20 majors a year. These small numbers allow us to have a very personal, intensive, conservatory style program. At UST the student receives considerable one-on-one training with faculty members in all aspects of the theatre arts. Students can focus on their own particular interest, be it acting, directing, playwriting or design as they earn they BA degree.
We are very proud of our graduates. You may be familiar with Sean Patrick Flanery (the Young Indiana Jones, Powder, Simply Irresistible, the Showtime cable movie, The Wild Fields, the TV mini-series Diamond Hunters, Eye See You with Sylvester Stallone and Acceptable Risk), Allen Edwards (seen on many national commercials), Sarah Prikryl (featured recently on NCSI) and Bren Dubay (a Pulitzer Prize nominated playwright.) Some of our students, like Sean, had never stepped foot on a stage before and others are seasoned thespians with many credits to their names.
Our annual season of plays includes five productions, at least one of which is a musical, and one a play for children. Our auditions are open to the entire University community and our drama minors, as well as many talented students involved in other majors, take the opportunity to try out. In our competitive auditions leading roles are given to freshmen as often as they are to seniors.
Drama Scholarships are available. Interested students can apply for a scholarship audition through the drama program.
Prospective students are most welcome to come see us in action. They can call the department at (713) 525-3520 to reserve complimentary tickets. |
