Gifts of Securities
Gifts of securities often confer significant tax benefits on the donor. For example, contributions of appreciated securities held for over a year are generally deductible at market value, regardless of what the donor paid for the securities. In addition, you can avoid the capital gain tax with a gift of securities.
How to Notify UST of a Gift of Securities
In order to give prompt and accurate credit to all gifts received, it is important to notify us of your gift so we can correctly identify the donor. Please instruct your broker to include your name and address in the DTC transfer instructions and notify UST. Please contact the University with the following information: the donor name, address and phone number as well as the securities detail including the type of security (public, private, restricted), the number of shares and the date you intend to make the gift.
For information on donating securities or to notify the University of a donation, please contact the Office of Advancement at email@example.com or 713-525-3100.
Planned Giving (Bequests, Life Insurance, Trusts, Charitable Gift Annuities, Real Estate and Tangible Personal Property)
Planned gifts are usually deferred gifts that are arranged now and fulfilled later. Planned gifts help meet your personal financial goals while making a significant contribution to the University. The University has a Certified Financial Planner on staff to help you determine your planned gift options.
Every year, the University receives over $100,000 in matching gift dollars, essentially doubling or tripling the donations of our alumni, friends and parents. The majority of these funds support the activities directly related to our students.
Many companies sponsor matching gift programs to encourage employees to support their colleges and universities. If you or your spouse works for a matching gift company, you can double or triple your gift to UST.
Search to find out if your employer will match your donation.
Note: If you do not find your company’s name in the database, please check with the Human Resources department of your company.
