Danielle Young
Business Administration (major)
Philosophy (minor)
Crosby, Texas
Danielle Young doesn’t believe in memorizing information. If she’s going to apply facts and figures to her life, she needs to know them inside out. “The knowledge I am gaining in my classes is applicable to me in both my professional and personal life,” she explains.
It’s the combination of real-world experience and practical knowledge that Danielle really appreciates about UST. The teaching methods, such as working in groups and independently, as well as the research required out of class, is helping her grow up, she says. “I am gaining a solid understanding of what is expected of me,” she explains. “I’m acquiring knowledge that I take with me and use daily.”
In particular, Danielle has enjoyed her English classes with Dr. Yerkes, her “favorite professor.” She has taken three English classes with him so far, and has enjoyed the love and passion he has for his subject.
“He is always so excited to discuss and share ideas on the readings, and encourages opposing views on whatever we are reading. His passion makes the entire class excited about reading the material and discussing it,” she says. “After class discussions, the papers were easy to write, and I came out of the class with a love for literature of all kinds. Dr. Yerkes offers an once-in-a-lifetime look at the art of poetry, novels, and literature in general.”
Yet, her favorite course at UST has been Philosophy of the Human Person. “I found it very interesting to read and learn about what different philosophers thought of humans, and loved that I was then challenged to think about what I thought a human was,” she says. “This class offered something different than what I was used to.”
Danielle’s experiences are preparing her well for her future plans—to increase the integrity of America’s business climate by enhancing the marketing, public relations, and ethics of corporations.
“My dream is to become a marketing director who is able to make positive change in the business world through aspects such as advertising, marketing, public relations, work ethic, and more,” she explains.
