Alumni Taco Tasting to Raise Scholarship Funds

“Two Saints and a Taco Tasting” to Raise Scholarship FundsThe inaugural University of St. Thomas “Two Saints and a Taco Tasting” event, hosted by the Alumni Association will feature tacos from some of Houston’s most popular restaurants and the full line up from Texas’ oldest craft brewery, at 6-9 p.m. on Thursday, April 19 at Saint Arnold Brewery, 2000 Lyons Ave., Houston, Texas.

Guests will sample tacos from Bocados, Hearsay Gastro Lounge, El Tiempo Cantina, Roots Bistro, Berryhill Baja Grill and Taqueria Arandas, and cast their vote for the favorites. The event will also feature a silent auction and live music.

The scholarships will benefit the UST Alumni Association Annual Scholarship Fund, to be awarded to continuing students. Last year, the Alumni Association awarded $23,000 in scholarships to eight students.
Drew Wilson, vice president of the Alumni Association, said one of the most appealing things about the scholarship fund is that it is for students who are currently enrolled at UST.

“Once a student is committed to the tenets of building faith and character, the Alumni Board sees to it that they can continue their journey and complete it with graduation,” Wilson said.

Silent auction items will focus on tacos, saints or beer with packages such as: “Taco Mania,” including  giftcards to area Mexican restaurants; “Tacos in the Sky” with dinner in Hilton Hotel’s Skyline Bar & Grill and a one-night stay; a St. Regis hotel gift certificate – another “saint;” and “No more Beer Belly” with a fitness package, plus more. With affordable silent auction packages, there will be something for everyone!

Alumni and current students in the band, The Beans, will perform live music (a fitting band name for a taco tasting).

Tickets are $25, advanced purchase only, and benefit the Alumni Association. Register for the event online or download the form to purchase tickets. No tickets will be sold at the door. Donations to the UST Alumni Association Scholarship Fund are also accepted. The event is open to the public and all alumni are invited to attend.
