Celts Move to 4-1 in Conference
The Lady Celts pushed their Red River Conference mark to 4-1 with a pair of victories over the weekend while splitting two other nonconference matches.

The Lady Celts kicked off a busy weekend of matches with the lone home match against Huston-Tillotson on Thursday, Oct. 13, in the “Orange Out Leukemia” match to help Sydney Marquis and her fight against Childhood Leukemia. The Celts got off to a fast start and never looked back as they posted a three set victory 25-16, 25-18, 25-12. The Lady Celts hit .302 as a team and were led in kills by Evon Welch with 12 and Regina Trapp with 10.

On Friday, the Lady Celts hit the road to Muskogee, OK for three matches at Bacone College. First up for the Celts was Friends University. This was a rematch from the Celts Labor Day Tournament to start off the year and the results remained the same. Friends cam out on fire early and the Celts tried to stabilize the match with a set two victory but could not push through. Friends won again in 4 sets 19-25, 29-27, 19-25, 19-25. Three Celts hitters had double digit kills led by Regina Trapp’s 15, Evon Welch’s 12 and Stephanie Biediger’s 10. Setter Brittany Weiler dished out 46 assists and Brittany Downs had 29 digs.

Saturday, the Celts jumped back into conference play with a 3-1 victory 25-16, 25-16, 21-25, 25-19 over Bacone College moving their conference mark to 4-1. The Celts came out on fire and only slowed down for a small stretch in set three. Regina Trapp had a stellar match with 23 kills and 20 digs. Stephanie Biediger chipped in with 12 kills of her own.

The final match of the weekend saw the Celts take on Sooner Conference foe St. Gregory’s. In a hard fought and close statistical match, the Celts pushed through for a 3-1 victory 25-16, 25-20, 22-25, 25-22 bringing their overall record to 15-10. Regina Trapp, Evon Welch and Stephanie Biediger led the team again in hitting with 17, 15, 12 kills respectably. Brittany Weiler dished out 49 assists.

Regina Trapp was named the Hitter of the Week and Brittany Weiler was named Setter of the Week in the Red River Conference. This is the second time this season for both to be honored. Trapp has also been honored as Player of the Week the week of Sept 26-Oct 2. Next up for the Lady Celts is conference matches against No. 1 ranked UT-Brownsville on Oct. 21 and Our Lady of the Lake on Oct 22 .
