Celts Play Outstanding on Senior Day

The University of St. Thomas women’s volleyball team swept Our Lady of The Lake University on a memorable Senior Day on Nov. 3 in Jerabeck Gym. UST defeated OLLU in three sets of 25-15, 25-21 and 25-15. The Celts finished the regular season ranked No. 3 with a record of 17-15 and 8-3 in Red River Athletic Conference play.

Before the match, the UST Athletic Department honored the four graduating seniors for their time spent in a Celt uniform. The seniors are outside hitter Stephanie Biediger, setter Brittany Weiler, middle blocker Lauren Curley and defensive specialist Monica Litle.

Volleyball Head Coach Kallie Noble said this victory was important for the team.

“We played a tough match against Texas-Brownsville on Friday and were able to recover and come out strong today,” Noble said. “We executed very well on our serving and did an excellent job siding out and controlling the net. When you do those things, you put the team in a good position.”

Kirsten Kubicek led all hitters with 14 kills, one service ace and eight digs on the afternoon. Biediger added 11 kills at a .348 clip. Weiler had an impressive match dishing out 33 assists, three kills, one solo block and 13 digs.

Curley played her best match of the season totaling 10 kills, and she had no errors on 14 attempts hitting .714. Shirley Paul controlled the defensive effort with 14 digs, and Litle chipped in five digs on the day.

The Celts will return to action next week in the RRAC Tournament. To find out tournament schedule information, follow the team on Twitter, @USTVolleyball12, or “Like” them on Facebook.
