Lady Celts Win Senior Day Match, Prepare for Tournament

Catherine LothIn four years at the University of St. Thomas, the senior class of Brittany Downs and Catherine Loth have experienced many good times.  This senior class will leave St. Thomas with the most wins of any class.  Going into this week’s conference tournament, they have 88 wins over four seasons and three conference championships. It is truly an outstanding career for both.

Saturday, the seniors took the court at St. Thomas for the last time in a conference match against Texas College.  After an emotional pre-match ceremony, the Lady Celts began the game and left little doubt from the start that they were there to send the seniors off with a victory.  Loth, an outside hitter, led the way as the Lady Celts took the first set 25-11.  The second and third sets were more of the same as the Lady Celts ran their offense and played strong defense, winning the match 25-11, 25-9 and 25-11.

Brittany DownsThe Lady Celts offense was led by Regina Trapp’s 15 kills, followed by Loth’s 10 kills.  Downs, a libero, led the defense with 10 digs.  The team finished the regular season 18-16 and 5-4 in the Red River Conference.  This was the inaugural year in the Red River Conference.

The Lady Celts will leave for Brownsville, Texas to play in the Conference Tournament on Wednesday.  Their first round match is 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 11 against Our Lady of the Lake University.  View live video and stats for all the Red River Conference matches at
