| Menís Golf Competes Against Top NAIA Foes in Dallas |
The St. Thomas Men’s Golf team traveled to Dallas on March 5-6 to compete in Northwood University’s Wyndham Spring Invitational. The event was hosted at TPC Las Colinas, a course that is home to the PGA Tour’s Byron Nelson Classic.
The Celts competed in arguably the strongest NAIA field to assemble all year, with 10 of the 15 teams in the field ranked in the top 25 in the country. The Celts held their ground on the first day with rounds of 307 and 310 to find themselves in 9th place, ahead of conference rivals Northwood University and UT-Brownsville. The final round brought nearly unplayable winds, gusting to 35 miles per hour, and the Celts final round total of 325 dropped them to 12th place.
Zach Cabra continued his strong freshmen year and notched the best Celt finish. His rounds of 72-78-79 were good enough to finish tied for 28th place. Junior Sean Kennedy also dealt with difficult conditions well, firing rounds of 74-79-80 to finish in a tie for 37th. The Celts will tee up again this weekend at Texas Wesleyan’s event at Hawk’s Creek Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas.
