New Recruit Can Hit from Downtown
UST Men's BasketballSean Edwards, from Waltrip High School in Houston, is predicted to be raining threes on opponents as a new member of the University of St. Thomas men's basketball team.

A team captain in his senior season, Edwards averaged 20 points and two steals per game. He was named First Team All-District 21-4A as a senior and Second Team All-District 21-4A as a junior. Edwards was also a Texas Scholar, class treasurer and a member of the National Honor Society.

"Sean is a terrific shooter who can really knock down the three," Director of Athletics and Head Coach Todd Smith said. "His ball-handling skills, quickness and ability to shoot the ball will give him a chance to be an excellent player at St. Thomas and in the Red River Conference."

The Red River Conference is a 15-member conference that hosts championships in 13 sports. Member universities include Bacone College, Huston-Tillotson University, Jarvis Christian College, Langston University, Louisiana State University-Shreveport, Northwood University, Our Lady of the Lake University, Paul Quinn College, Southwest Assemblies of God, Texas College, Texas Wesleyan University, University of Texas-Brownsville, University of the Southwest and Wiley College.

The men’s basketball team finished last season 18-13 in only its third year of competition. St. Thomas is one of the top five universities in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Five Star Champions of Character for the 2010-2011 academic year and has been for four consecutive years.

The first men's basketball home game is Nov. 12.
