Offensive Rebounds Hurt WBB Celts
Hershiira Boone-RodgersThe University of St. Thomas women's basketball team lost a tough game, 69-65, to Texas Wesleyan University on Feb. 4.

Hershiira Boone-Rodgers led the Celts with 20 points and eight assists. Amber Arceneaux-Francis, with 19 points and 14 rebounds, and Maghen Lormand, with 15 points and 11 rebounds, both added double-doubles in the loss.

Head Coach Mike Ricks was happy with the resiliency his team showed in the game, but said the Celts got beat to rebounds and loose balls almost all night.

"We lost by 4 and gave them so many second and third chances,” Ricks said. “They were flat out quicker to the ball than we were. We showed that we're tough by sticking with it and having a chance to tie it up, but giving up 24 offensive rebounds is just inexcusable.”

Ricks said games like this are good for the team though.

“We just have to show we can learn from a close game and not make the same mistakes next time," he said.

The Celts were coming off of a big win at home, 87-62, over the University of the Southwest on Feb. 2. Lormand led four Celts in double figures with 25 points and 11 rebounds. Arceneaux-Francis also had a double-double, tallying 22 points and 15 rebounds. Boone-Rodgers shot for 13 points and Sebo had 11.

Now, well into conference play, the week doesn't get any easier for the Celts as they host Our Lady of the Lake University on Feb. 7. Ricks said Our Lady of the Lake is as tough as they come.

“They do a great job of making you play at their tempo – we have to be ready," Ricks said.

Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. in Jerabeck Gym. Tickets are $3 and free for children 12 and under. The game also will be broadcast on PSN Sports at
