Tough RRAC Matches Leave VB 1-1
Stephanie Biediger and Kylah DiasFaced with two challenging Red River Athletic Conference matches, the University of St. Thomas women’s volleyball team came away with a win on Oct. 12 and a loss on Oct. 13. 

In the first match of the weekend, the Celts headed to Fort Worth, Texas, to take on Texas Wesleyan University. UST topped  the Rams in a thriller winning 3-2 with sets 25-23, 23-25, 18-25, 25-23 and 15-12.

Brittany Weiler controlled the offense dishing out 49 assists, 10 digs and one solo block.  Stephanie Biediger was aggressive with 18 kills, two service aces, five digs and one solo block. A stellar defensive effort was led by Shirley Paul, who had 46 digs on the night. Kirsten Kubicek added 24 digs.

"Tonight we had half the players but twice the heart," said Head Coach Kallie Noble. "We really played as a team."

On Saturday morning, the Celts went to Waxahachie, Texas, to take on Southwestern Assemblies of God.  UST lost a hard-fought match 2-3 with five sets 25-17, 15-25, 18-25, 25-17 and 13-15.

UST had three players with double-doubles in the match. Biediger had 23 kills and 10 digs, Kubicek had 12 kills and 11 digs, and Weiler had 47 assists and 14 digs. Kylah Dias contributed with 12 kills hitting at a .250 clip. Paul led the team with 16 digs.

The Celts go on the road again to take on conference opponent Huston-Tillotson University at 6 p.m. on Oct. 16 in Austin, Texas.
