UST Welcomes Res Life and First Gen Leader

The University of St. Thomas welcomes Dan Bolger as Coordinator of Residence Life. Bolger, a psychology graduate of John Brown University in Arkansas, joins the Office of Residence Life team after spending three months in Shenyang, China, teaching English classes at Liaoyang University.

Bolger’s responsibilities as coordinator include managing of the Res Life Office, which includes housing and student contracts; serving as staff advisor for Residence Council, the student governing board; leading professional development sessions with the Resident Assistants; and planning and executing new staff training.

“I’ve been here a little over two months and I finally feel like I know what I’m doing,” Bolger said. “I’m definitely getting to know our RAs a little bit better and that makes my job a lot easier. It was a little transition and it did have some challenges, but I think I’m at a good place this semester.”

Bolger was also recently appointed as the new staff advisor for the First Generation Student Group, aimed at helping all FirstGen college students succeed as college graduates through intentional interactions and involvement in the UST community.

"My goal is to see where I can fit in to help the students,” Bolger said. “I want to learn about the group, what they’re doing, where the group is headed and how I can play a role in that.”

Originally from Branson, Missouri, Bolger holds a Master in Christian Studies and a Master in Counseling from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, Illinois. Although he comes from a strong evangelical background, Bolger looks forward to learning more about Catholicism and how Catholic higher education works.

“I’m excited to learn from the students, staff and faculty here about the tradition St. Thomas is based out of so it can help me grow as a Christian and a follower of Christ.” Bolger said.
