VITA Offers Free tax Preparations
Graphic: TaxesDozens of University of St. Thomas accounting students and alumni will provide free income tax filing assistance on Saturdays through April 14.

The IRS Volunteer Income Assistance site at the M.D. Anderson YMCA on 705 Cavalcade just north of downtown, is one of the largest programs of its kind in the city and is managed and staffed entirely by UST volunteers. The program is open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays (March 3, 10, 24, 31 and April 14) and provides free electronic filing. UST alum Lucy Petry, CPA, is the site manager.

The service is available to any UST faculty, staff or student with a relatively simple return, including the 1040EZ, 1040A and the ‘long form’ 1040. Assistance is also available, by appointment only, weekday evenings by calling the YMCA at 713-697-0648.
