Walk Way of the Cross on Good Friday

UST community members are invited to walk the Way of the Cross in the heart of the city beginning at 10:15 a.m. on Good Friday, April 18.

The procession will begin at the Chapel of St. Basil, 3802 Yoakum Blvd., and continue through the city, ending at the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, 1701 San Jacinto St., in Downtown with a blessing by Daniel Cardinal DiNardo.

Five stops will honor the passion of the cross, including UST’s Edward P. White Memorial Plaza, Montrose Blvd. at W. Alabama; Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 3617 Milam St.; and Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston, 2900 Louisiana St. This is a meditative procession with readings, choral pieces and reflections on the Gospel at each station.

Sponsored by Communion and Liberation and UST Campus Ministry, they invite all who want to follow the cross of Christ to walk together through the city to be reminded of the gift we have been given.

For Roman Catholics throughout the world, the Stations of the Cross are synonymous with Lent, Holy Week and, especially, Good Friday. This devotion is also known as the "Way of the Cross," the "Via Crucis," and the "Via Dolorosa." It commemorates 14 key events on the day of Christ's crucifixion. The walk commemorates his final walk through the streets of Jerusalem, carrying the Cross.

The event is free and open to the public.
