St. Martin de Porres Group
The St. Martin de Porres Society is the University of St. Thomas’ black alumni group. The mission of the Society is to maximize black alumni participation in the affairs of the University and to promote personal growth within the black student body. The Society is devoted to supporting the recruitment, retention, development and graduation of UST’s current and prospective black students in the surrounding Houston community while helping to instill a sense of pride in their alma mater.
The organization was established in 2009 and is known for their two hallmark events, the annual St. Martin de Porres Feast Day Celebration which takes places in November and their annual Black History Month Celebration which takes place in February. The Sociey serves as an alumni mentor group to the University's Black Student Union (BSU) and acts as a sponsor for the student organization's annual Crawfish Boil.
