Alumni Mentoring Rules & Regulations
The following is a list of requirements, dates, rules and regulations that must be agreed upon before a mentoring relationship can be formally established. If you have any questions, please contact Hank Emery, Director of Alumni Relations and Annual Giving at 713-525-3111.

Requirements
  • Must be an alumnus of the University of St. Thomas
  • Make a one semester commitment
  • Attend meetings on-campus every other month
  • Meet with students individually, on months that do not require a visit to campus
  • Be available to answer phone calls and e-mails from the student
Mentors and students will meet at least once a month during the spring semester.

Attending required on-campus meetings, meetings with the student off-campus and communicating as much as your schedules allows is vital to the success of the USTinsights Alumni Mentoring Students program.  A student must be able to rely on the guidance and support of his or her mentor as should a mentor be able to rely on a student’s commitment to the program.

In order for students and mentors to reap the full benefits of this program, it is important for potential mentor and student participants to understand the process by which participants can be terminated from the program.

Protocol to terminate a participant from the USTinsights Alumni Mentoring Students Program:

  • If a mentor does not attend the first “Meet your Mentor” meeting and fails to make contact with his or her student within 2 weeks of the meeting, the relationship will be dissolved.
  • If a mentor does attend the first “Meet your Mentor” meeting but fails to continue communicating with his or her student, the mentor will be contacted and asked if he or she wants to continue participating in the program, keeping in mind the terms agreed upon when the mentor applied for the program.  If the alumnus chooses to continue, he or she must contact the student within one week or the mentoring relationship will be dissolved.
  • If a student does not attend the first “Meet your Mentor” meeting and fails to make contact with his or her mentor within 2 weeks of the meeting the relationship will be dissolved.
  • If a student does attend the first “Meet your Mentor” meeting but fails to continue communicating with his or her mentor, the student will be contacted and asked if he or she wants to continue participating in the program, keeping in mind the terms agreed upon when the student applied for the program.  If the student chooses to continue, he or she must contact the mentor within one week or the mentoring relationship will be dissolved.
