Employee Benefits

The University of St. Thomas offers a comprehensive benefits package to its benefit-eligible employees. All eligible employees are encouraged to participate in the University section 125 pre-tax benefit plan.

Summary of Benefits
The University of St. Thomas offers three choices of medical insurance plans to its benefit-eligible staff and faculty, all of them POS. Employees can elect in-network doctors using the PHCS. Claims are submitted through GPA. The Unviersity pays for 60% of medical premiums, including spouse, children, and family coverage.

The Unviersity of St. Thomas offers two choices of dental plan (DHMO and DPPO) through the MetLife Network. This benefit is Free to employees. Coverage is also available for employee's spouse, children, and family.

The University of St. Thomas also offers these following benefits to its benefit-eligible faculty and staff

Free Group Life insurance in the amount of one and a half time the employee's salary to a maximum of $50,000.
Supplemental Life insurance in multiples of $10,000, up to 4 times your salary.
Free Long-Term Disability insurance.
Free Short-term Disability insurance after one year of employment.
Vision Plan through the VSP network. Employees pay for 100% of premiums.
Accident & Sickness Hospital Confinement Coverage, Critical Illness & Cancer Benefit, Individual Short Term Disability and Long-Term Care through Unum.
Section 125 Medical Spending Account up to $5,000.
Section 125 Dependent Care reimbursement account up to $5,000.
Free and discounted tuition for employees, spouse, and dependent children.
Matching, dollar for dollar, 403b pre-tax retirement plan up to 6% of gross pay with a wide choice of investments form TIAA-CREF, Raymond James & Assoc., or VALIC.
Paid Sick time, Vacation, Jury Duty, Holidays, and Summer Hours.
Free use of library and gymnasium.

Sprint: UST has discounts with Sprint available through the Employee Value Program. The EVP program allows you to start new service with a discount or apply a discount to your existing Sprint plan. Black Labrador Pub: The Black Labrador Pub, conveniently located at 4100 Montrose, offers University students, staff and faculty a 15% discount off of their menu Monday-Friday until 4pm. Click here to view their menu.

Kraftsmen Baking Deli: Kraftsmen Baking Deli offers University of St. Thomas students, faculty and staff a 10% discount. You can only get the discount if you present your UST ID card so don't go without it. They are located at 4100C Montrose Blvd. (next to the Black Labrador Pub). The Health Museum: Houston's Health Museum proudly offers the University of St. Thomas discounts. All you need to do is present this flyer to receive the discounts.
