The Burnett Family Chair in Leadership
The Cameron School of Business announces and invites nominations and applications for this newly endowed faculty chair in leadership, instituted through a gift from the Notsew Orm Sands Foundation, given by Mrs. Miriam Burnett and her son Mr. Charles Burnett. The appointee will bring to the Cameron School and the University important expertise, intellectual leadership, and stimulating teaching in the area of leadership, combining the critical skills and techniques of leadership with the rigor necessary to an academic specialization. An experienced, innovative, visionary, results-oriented, proven leader who will work collegially with University and Cameron School leadership and faculty will be the ideal candidate.
Located in Houston’s museum district and close to the city’s cultural and business center and the acclaimed Texas Medical Center, UST offers an attractive urban campus for approximately 3,000 undergraduate and graduate students. The student body is Texas strong and highly diversified. 51% of students are ethnically diverse, and students come from 30 other states and 57 countries. Over 90% of the full-time faculty possess the terminal degree. Founded in 1947 by members of the Congregation of St. Basil, UST is committed to the liberal arts, proud of its inheritance in the enduring Catholic intellectual tradition, and sensitive to its mission to prepare students for lifelong learning, further formal education, and careers. The University has been ranked in the top tier of the Western region master’s level institutions by U S News & World Report for the past fourteen years.
The Cameron School of Business enrolled nearly 300 undergraduates and more than 550 graduate students in fall 2007. The School offers the Bachelor of Business Administration degree, with majors in Accounting, Finance, General Business, and Marketing. There are two graduate degrees: the Master of Business Administration and the Master of Science in Accounting. Cameron houses the Center for Business Ethics. It has ACBSP accreditation and is actively seeking AACSB accreditation.
Responsibilities:
- Education. Teach undergraduate and graduate courses, sponsor a Leader-in-Residence program to bring outstanding leaders to the campus, and develop and oversee creation of executive seminars and short courses in leadership.
- Research. Conceptualize and lead research in the School to advance understanding of leadership and develop a program of research with an interdisciplinary team of faculty with complementary interests.
- Service to Community. In cooperation with the Center for Business Ethics, offer seminars on topics such as ethical leadership and promote opportunities for leadership-based economic engagement, applied research, and collaboration with the business and professional communities.
- Community Partnerships. Collaborate with civic, humanitarian, business, and other organizations to provide students with internships, service, and leadership opportunities; and sponsor an annual seminar or lecture series with University and external participants.
Qualifications:
- A terminal advanced degree in a relevant discipline such as business administration, economics, public administration, public policy, or related field
- Demonstrated leadership ability.
- Demonstrated ability to teach effectively and motivate students.
- Intellectual leadership, as demonstrated by publication in refereed journals and other work products that meet standards for tenure at quality universities. Some senior practitioner experience is highly desirable.
- Excellent communication and team-building skills, with networking capacity to engage a broad array of academic, commercial, and other professionals.
- Knowledge of best practices at other institutions and the ability to adopt and maximize their impact on strategies for developing leaders.
