Assistant Professor of Educational Leadership/Non-Tenure Track, Annual Contract, Evaluated on Teaching
The University of St. Thomas is a private institution committed to the liberal arts and to the religious, ethical, and intellectual tradition of Catholic higher education.  The School of Education, one of the schools within the University of St. Thomas, is conducting a search for an assistant professor position beginning January 2010.

Applicants must have a doctorate with a concentration in educational leadership or appropriate related fields, have three or more years experience in an educational leadership position, and must have or be able to meet administrative certification requirements in Texas. As the University of St. Thomas values excellence in teaching, evidence of teaching excellence is requested.

 The responsibilities for this position include:
•Teaching eight graduate educational leadership and/or core courses in a twelve month period
•Preferably teach four courses in the spring and four courses in the fall semester; if that schedule is not possible due to commitment conflicts, a minimum of six courses of the eight would be taught in the fall and spring semesters in any combination with the remaining two taught in the summer
•Advise students the instructor is currently teaching
•Demonstrate an ability to teach to diverse populations using traditional and online formats
•Provide evidence of understanding the issues related to educational leadership in diverse populations in public and private school settings
•Faculty in this assignment will be evaluated on Teaching effectiveness only

DIRECTOR OF READING AND CATHOLIC EDUCATION
The University of St. Thomas is a private institution committed to the liberal arts and to the religious, ethical, and intellectual tradition of Catholic higher education.  Its School of Education is conducting a search for a Director of Reading and Catholic Education position with employment beginning no later than August, 2010.  This is a non-tenure track assistant professor position and performance will be evaluated on teaching and service.

The School of Education offers undergraduate and graduate programs leading to certification in EC-6 education, 4-8 education, 8-12, and EC-12 education, as well as a Master Reading Teacher certification program and an M.Ed. in Reading leading to Reading Specialist certification.  Applicants must have a doctorate with a concentration in reading or related language arts field, experience in Catholic Education as a teacher or administrator, and a minimum of three years of teaching experience in a public or private K-12 school. Applicants should hold or be eligible for or be able to meet reading certification requirements in Texas.  As the University of St. Thomas values excellence in teaching, evidence of teaching excellence is requested.

 The responsibilities of the Assistant Professor of Reading and Catholic Education include:
• Teaching graduate and undergraduate reading courses to prepare teachers in certification programs
• Advise students in undergraduate and graduate programs
• Support field experiences in the content area of reading/language arts
• Work with the university’s K-12 partnering schools
• Actively participate in professional organizations
• Supervise adjunct instructors teaching in the field of reading

• Serve as liaison to the Catholic Schools Office of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston

This is a nine-month position; however, teaching over the summer is expected. Applications should include three items: (1) a letter of interest that includes a brief overview of qualifications; (2) a one-page response to the special role of a Catholic University in light of the document on Catholic higher education entitled Ex Corde Ecclesiae which is available online; (3) a current Curriculum Vitae; and (4) a minimum of three and maximum of five references including telephone numbers, email, and mailing addresses—references will only be contacted after a candidate has been selected as a finalist.
