Teaching/Research Faculty (Tenure Track)
Candidates for this position must have an earned doctorate in research or related field and one or more years experience in a teaching and/or educational research role. Experience in quantitative and qualitative action research and program assessment is highly desirable. Beginning rank of Assistant Professor is anticipated, but will be commensurate with teaching and leadership experience.

The successful candidate is expected to guide student research for the graduate program action research study. Teaching duties for this position include teaching two or three courses each semester, dependant on final assignment of duties; advising graduate students in the overall design of research projects for the research symposium and the graduate master’s thesis; assist faculty in research data analysis; and assist with School of Education program assessment.

DIRECTOR OF READING AND CATHOLIC EDUCATION
The University of St. Thomas is a private institution committed to the liberal arts and to the religious, ethical, and intellectual tradition of Catholic higher education.  Its School of Education is conducting a search for a Director of Reading and Catholic Education position with employment beginning no later than August, 2010.  This is a tenure-track assistant professor position and performance will be evaluated on teaching, scholarship, and service.

The School of Education offers undergraduate and graduate programs leading to certification in EC-6 education, 4-8 education, 8-12, and EC-12 education, as well as a Master Reading Teacher certification program and a M.Ed. in Reading leading to Reading Specialist certification.  Applicants must have a doctorate with a concentration in reading or related language arts field, experience in Catholic Education as a teacher or administrator, and a minimum of three years of teaching experience in a public or private K-12 school. Applicants should hold or be eligible for or be able to meet reading certification requirements in Texas.  As the University of St. Thomas values excellence in teaching, evidence of teaching excellence is requested.

 The responsibilities of the Assistant Professor of Reading and Catholic Education include:
• Teaching graduate and undergraduate reading courses to prepare teachers in certification programs
• Advise students in undergraduate and graduate programs
• Support field experiences in the content area of reading/language arts
• Work with the university’s K-12 partnering schools
• Actively participate in professional organizations
• Supervise adjunct instructors teaching in the field of reading

• Serve as liaison to the Catholic Schools Office of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston
