Staff Architect

The Staff Architect, under the direction of the AVP for Facilities, is responsible for the preparation and review of architectural designs for University of St. Thomas expansion, alterations, and renovation programs. The position is responsible for organizing all necessary architectural services necessary for construction. Oversees the work of selected contractors to ensure the work is being done according to contract, budget, and design specifications.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Prepare architectural plans, sections, elevations, details, presentation materials and other drafting tasks for campus projects of limited size to include:
-
Prepare preliminary sketches of projects to present to University administration.
-
Develop schematic studies for all facilities and renovation projects.
-
Prepare and coordinate the development of detailed working drawings and specifications.
-
Review and critique proposals made by consultant architects for the University’s growth and expansion projects.
-
Examine projects under construction and ensure the maintenance of sound architectural standards.
-
Assist with the bid process which includes ensuring that the project is thoroughly explained to contractors and assist with the bid review process.
-
Develop cost estimates and construction material recommendations working in partnership with external contractors.
-
Monitor and examine expenditures of funds of established project budgets.
-
Review general contractor qualifications.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS AND COMPETENCIES
-
Minimum 5 years’ experience under the direct supervision of a licensed Architect required.
-
Minimum 3 years’ experience with Auto-Cad expertise required.
-
Must thoroughly working knowledge of City of Houston building Codes.
-
LEED experience desirable.
-
Must demonstrate a high level of knowledge of architecture and architectural principles and techniques.
-
Must demonstrate the thorough knowledge of the different types of building materials and construction methods.
-
Must demonstrate the thorough knowledge of structural, mechanical and electrical engineering related to business costs.

Must demonstrate effective communication skills both verbal and written.

Must demonstrate the ability to work in a deadline-driven, fast-paced environment while collaborating with technical professional staff.

Must have work experience where project management was an important component.

Must be proficient with Microsoft Word programs such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or related field required

Registration as an Architect in the State of Texas preferred.

Head Coach-Women’s Soccer

The Women’s Soccer Head Coach is responsible for a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) soccer program. This includes the administration of day-to-day aspects of a collegiate soccer program including recruiting, budgeting, scheduling and a commitment to the athletes’ academic progress and degree completion.
The successful candidate will have a unique opportunity to mold and cultivate the soccer program at the University of St. Thomas. After over 20 years, the university resurrected varsity athletics in the fall semester 2006. The start date to begin competition in soccer is the fall semester of 2014. The program will be a part of the NAIA and will function as a member of the Red River Athletic Conference. The candidate will be instrumental in determining the direction the program will take. This is an opportunity to showcase not only coaching knowledge, but also organizational and strategic planning skills.
The Women’s Soccer Head Coach will report to the Director of Athletics for all matters related to the soccer program and will work closely with the Senior Woman Administrator to help advance UST athletics.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
Student development theory is used to create, plan, and implement educational, social, physical and cultural programming designed to enhance the overall experience and achievement of both undergraduate and graduate students. These means are accomplished through the following specific duties:

The Women’s Soccer Head Coach will act as the Athletic Department’s Co-Coordinator of Game Management. The Co-Coordinator of Game Management will be responsible for the set-up and implementation of all home games and matches for the Athletic Department. This includes event promotions, event timelines, the hiring or event personnel, facility preparation and all aspects pertaining to the event.
Qualifications and Requirements:

A Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology, Sport Management or a related field is required with a minimum of five years of coaching experience, preferably in a college or university setting.

A Master’s Degree is preferred.

The successful candidate must also have excellent verbal communication and strong interpersonal skills.

Basic computer skills should include word processing, and spreadsheets.
Working conditions:

Development Project Specialist

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Communicates and schedules appointments with high-level prospective donors for VPIA

Maintains positive relations and interactions with key offices, including, faculty, volunteers and donors as well as UST executives;

Prepares all VPIA communications, letters and written materials. Anticipates needs for high level meetings and materials, strategy information that may be required. Provide staffing support as needed for high level donor meetings including the coordination of briefing materials for meetings and preparation of materials for meetings.

Assists VPIA in preparation of all board reports: executive committee, board and development committee presentations.
-
Provides VPIA support in monitoring progress of campaign and annual activities and progress towards targets.

Assists with Peoplesoft entries for VPIA

Provides project management oversight and execution for ongoing and ad-hoc fundraising projects.

Assists with high level donor communications as directed by VPIA.

Provide staffing support to Development Committee, Councils (and other Campaign Committees) as needed by coordinating and scheduling of meetings, development of materials to distribute at meetings and preparation of meeting minutes.

Provides quality control of printed materials such as high-level meeting agendas, briefing documents, event information, educational and donor materials, power point presentations, etc. This includes following the UST style guide, AP style guidelines, verification of accurate logo placement, etc.

Assist in defining and managing the infrastructure and systems required to support the growth and development of the Office of Advancement, resources needed to accomplish all job duties, as well as the needs of department overall.

As a Freshman Admissions Counselor, the ideal candidate will independently represent the University to prospective students, parents, high school counselors, church parishes and community representatives for the purpose of recruiting new students. Limited international travel may be required as the recruitment plan for international students develops.

The successful candidate will serve as the primary contact in the Office of Admissions for prospective international students and family members in the counselor’s assigned territories, including all freshman international students.

Additional responsibilities include meeting with prospective students and parents during campus visits, representing the University at college fairs and on-campus recruiting events, assisting in developing the Admissions Strategic Plan, reviewing and analyzing admissions reports and data, and working collaboratively with the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid. The successful candidate should be independent and self-motivated while also being a strong team player who welcomes professional collaboration.
Requirements

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree, experience in recruiting in the education field, a working knowledge of admissions criteria for freshmen students, knowledge of Microsoft Office Products and social networking tools, excellent organizational and time management skills; an ability to operate basic office equipment; and a working knowledge of PeopleSoft or similar software products is preferred. Experience with CRM software a plus.

Excellent Customer service and communications skills required.

Experience in working with diverse populations and cultures is important and bilingual conversational and written skills in Spanish/English is desired.

This position requires some night and weekend work commitments, especially during peak recruitment periods. Also, travel and substantial phone and electronic communication work are required. Use of personal car and possession of a valid Texas Driver’s License is required.
