Computer does not turn on:
  1. Computer does not boot up then check for the following:
    Make sure there is no floppy disk in floppy drive.
    Check power cord and make sure it is plugged in to both pc and power outlet.

Computer freezes or running slow:

  1. Clear out your temp folder and then reboot your pc. To clear out temp files:
    Double Click on My Computer, Local Disk (C), Documents & Settings, User Folder, Local Setting, and then open TEMP and Temporary Internet folder and delete files.
  2. Always a good thing to restart pc if you are experiencing some problems.
  3. Call ext. 6900 and request a work order if the above has not helped.

Blue Screen of Death:

  1. If the blue screen appears and computer does not continue on, call IT Helpdesk at x6900 and open a work order.

Burn CD/Backup Files

  1. Right click on document(s) you want to burn or save to a cd.
  2. Go to Send to, then go to DVD/CD-RW drive which in turn will send document(s) to be written when ready.

Zipping files:

Highlight the desired files to be zipped. Right mouse click and choose Send to. A new menu will appear and you will choose Compressed (zipped) folders. If any dialog box appears choose yes. The zipped files will be created in the same location as the target files.

Defragging computer:

To defrag your computer, navigate the computer to the control panel and choose administrative tools. Next, click on the Computer Management icon. A new menu will appear and click on the Disk Defragmenter icon. A graphic will begin to appear showing you the hard drive. Click on the Defragment button. The computer will then begin defragmenting the computer. This process can take any where from 5 minutes to one hour depending on how much information is stored on the Computer.

Connecting to a Network Printer

Go to Start, Run, enter \\print2k and search for desired network printer you want to print to. Right click on desired network printer and select connect.

Updating McAfee Antivirus Software

Right mouse click on McAfee V shield on bottom right hand corner of Toolbar and select Update Now.

Archive\Retrieve Old E-mails

On the left side of Outlook are all existing email folders. A new folder at the bottom will appear called “Archive Folders”. This is the location of the emails that are older than 6 months.  Left mouse click on the “plus” sign to expand the folder allowing the subfolders to be shown.
