INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
Purchases & Recommendations

Information Technology (IT) will facilitate purchase of technology for campus use. To achieve cost savings the university will leverage our combined purchase power and plan for security considerations when implementing a new software or hardware.

All University departmental purchase not only requires the budget supervisor’s signature but requires the associated area’s Vice President’s signature as well as Vice President of Information Technology signature.

For question, concern, or request, please contact the IT Help Desk to coordinate the purchases.

Purchases

Purchases (Faculty/Staff):
Software and Hardware must be purchased through the IT department. Products purchased outside of the University will not be supported. The IT department will work to get the best possible product for the amount of money that is available. IT will send out information comparing items and giving their recommendation so that the individual can choose what item meets their goal. Once the product has been determined, IT will create a Purchasing Order that will then be emailed to the individual. The client must then need print the Purchasing Order and have the budget supervisor sign and return to the Purchasing Agent, Jennifer Condi.

Discounted Software for Faculty, Staff & Students:
If you are a current faculty, staff or student wanting to purchase a discounted software through the University’s ICUT Agreement, please click here.  The purchase is between you and Campus Tech. The University does not provide any support for this software.

UST Students and Faculty also have the option of using the Logisoft Adobe Student & Faculty Store.

Get the software you need at great academic discounts at VarsityBuys.com.

Software Licensing
Types of Licenses:
The University purchases three types of licenses.
  1. The Site license is a license that covers the entire University. Windows XP and Office are examples of a Site license.
  2. The Individual license is a license that only covers that individual. Adobe Pro and Macromedia Studio 8 are examples of this license.
  3. The concurrent license is a license that is shared through the University Servers. SPSS and McAfee are examples of this license.

Software Licensing:
The University of St. Thomas supports a number of software solutions and has site licenses for certain products. Other products have a limited number of seats per license. If IT does not have an available seat one can be purchased through IT by contacting the Helpdesk at x6900 and opening a Work Order.

Software license are reserved for one computer only. Installing software on a secondary computer is software piracy. If a second computer needs a certain software package, please call IT and order another license.
