Welcome
Office of International Student Services

The University of St. Thomas is a welcoming place where students and faculty of all faiths can learn and teach and strengthen their own religious convictions. On our campus there is an openness that transcends differences, welcomes diversity and provides a warm and supportive atmosphere for international students.

As a student at the University of St. Thomas you will be studying among around 1,600 undergraduate and 1,900 graduate students. Our students represent 31 states and 58 countries, making UST's student body one of the most multi-cultural in Texas and the Southwest.

Around seven percent of students hold foreign citizenship, though many others have international backgrounds.

International Student Successes

Lukas Simon Class of 2011

After venturing to a new country, a new school, a new soccer team, and a new University of St. Thomas bioinformatics academic program, Lukas Simon is not afraid to take on yet another challenge.

“I would definitely recommend St. Thomas to international students,” said Simon. “It is easy to integrate into UST’s family-like community. There are a lot of activities, the campus is smaller, classes are smaller; you get to know people and I think you feel more at home.”

Jodi Mahardi and Chiara Sari MLA Class of 2011

Jodi Mahardi, vice consul for economic protocol affairs at the Indonesian Consulate in Houston, and his wife, Chiara Sari, earned Master in Liberal Arts degrees with concentrations in international studies in May 2011.

“The Indonesian government encourages officials to keep learning so they are ready for globalization,” Mahardi said. “At St. Thomas, the International Studies program is very good. The professors are willing to work closely with the students. You get that personal touch with the professors.”

Although she describes herself as shy, Sari said UST classes helped her open up and think more critically. “Your fellow students, colleagues and professors encourage you to have an opinion and not be judged,” Sari said. “You really can feel the spirit of American Democracy in the classroom.”
