Spring Graduation

Let us be the first to congratulate you on graduation! Every May this is a joyous occasion, so please follow the guidelines below to make sure you take the necessary steps towards this exciting event.

The University of St. Thomas will celebrate 1,013 graduates with a Commencement Ceremony at 10 a.m. on May 17, 2014 at Reliant Arena, located at 1 Reliant Park. This year, the University will require tickets for guests in Reliant Arena, and all other guests can view a live stream of the event in a nearby conference room. Please view the following frequently asked questions related to graduation tickets:

Graduation FAQs

Why is the University of St. Thomas requiring tickets for the Commencement Ceremony?

Due to limited seating in Reliant Arena and a high number of graduates, each student will be offered a limited number of tickets for family members and friends. Tickets are required to avoid turning away guests due to fire code of the Arena.

How many tickets can I pick up?

Each graduate who has indicated he or she will participate in Commencement can pick up six tickets for seating in Reliant Arena (if they have not already done so). All other guests can view a live stream of the event in the nearby Overflow Pavilion, which does not require tickets.

When/where can I pick up tickets?

  • The tickets will be available for pickup from April 4 to May 3 in the Office of the Registrar in Herzstein Enrollment Center during business hours 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
  • Tickets will also be available on Saturdays, April 26 and May 3 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Students must pick up tickets in person and will sign for their tickets. ID is required.
  • Tickets will also be available for pickup at the Grad Finale from 4-7 p.m. on April 3 in Scanlan Room, Jerabeck Center.
  • The deadline for picking up tickets is May 3. After that date, tickets will be available on a first-come, first-served basis on May 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  A limit will be specified at a later date.

Is there a cost for tickets or seating in the overflow room?

There is no charge for tickets to Commencement in Reliant Arena or for access to the Overflow Pavilion.

What if I need more than 6 tickets?

Out of fairness to all participants, graduates will be limited to six tickets. The Office of the Registrar encourages students to pick up only as many tickets as needed, so that remaining tickets can be made available to other graduates who would like more tickets for seating in Reliant Arena.

Any remaining tickets will be available on a first-come, first-served basis on May 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  A limit will be specified at a later date.

Graduates can invite all other family and friends to watch a live stream of Commencement in the Overflow Pavilion next to Reliant Arena.

Can I get tickets for specific seats in Reliant Arena?

The tickets are for entrance into Reliant Arena, not for specific seats. Ticketed guests should arrive early for their preferred seating.

What if I forgot to pick up tickets and they are no longer available?

All tickets must be picked up by May 3. If the tickets are not picked up, they will be included in the tickets to distribute on May 10. Once all tickets are distributed, seating for Reliant Arena will no longer be available. However graduates can still invite guests to watch the event live in the Overflow Pavilion next to Reliant Arena, without tickets.

Will my family and friends be able to watch graduation online?

A live stream of the Commencement Ceremony will be available online for anyone who is unable to attend the event. The link will be available in advance of the ceremony for graduates to share with family and friends.

Are tickets required for the Baccalaureate Mass or Reception?

No tickets are required for the Mass or reception on Friday, May 16. Students may choose to invite some family or friends to the Commencement Ceremony and other guests to the Baccalaureate Mass. Read more about the Baccalaureate Mass and parking information.

There will be a Graduation Reception hosted by the Office of Alumni Relations on the Crooker Patio immediately following Mass.

Where can I get information about cap and gown?

Caps and gowns should be worn to the Baccalaureate Mass and the Commencement Ceremony. Hoods should be carried over the left arm at the Commencement Ceremony.

See the Academic Regalia section below for more information about ordering and wearing caps and gowns.
