Faculty Excellence Profiles
The heart of Houston is home to the vibrant UST campus, where faculty members bring classes to life. These engaging educators offer students a rich tapestry of knowledge and experience that conveys their deep concern for the respect of the human person and the world around us. They collaborate with students on research and service learning projects that connect the classroom to real world challenges relevant to their academic discipline. The congenial atmosphere has an intimate feel that fosters lasting personal relationships.

UST is served by 273 dedicated faculty, 135 are full-time, 61 percent are tenured, and 91 percent of the full-time faculty possess a terminal degree. UST's commitment to attracting distinguished faculty scholars assures a continuum of quality liberal arts and faith-based education.


Shivas Amin Combines Biology, Computers in High-Demand Field

Dr. Shivas AminThrough courses in Bioinformatics, a newly emerging field in the life sciences, Dr. Shivas Amin prepares students for high-demand jobs that require analyzing genome and proteome projects. He teaches students computer programming – skills that are transferrable to other industries such as engineering, computer science, mathematics, business and finance.

Sindelar Weaves Foreign Service into Middle East Class

Dr. Richard Sindelar​While teaching a survey class on the Middle East and North Africa, Richard Sindelar can explain the enormity of Tahrir Square during talks of the Arab Spring in Egypt. He can lend his experience with settlements to a discussion of the Arab Israeli settlements. He has firsthand knowledge because Sindelar was a United States foreign service officer who spent almost half his career covering the Middle East.
