|Health Insurance Requirement|
The University of St. Thomas requires all international students to register for comprehensive health insurance. International students must show proof of health insurance while residing in the U.S. as well as informing the OISSS on any updates with your current insurance coverage. Students who fail to comply with this rule will not be able to register for classes.
The minimum requirements for health insurance are as follows:
- Medical benefits of at least $50,000 USD per accident or illness.
- Repatriation of remains in the amount of $7,500 USD. If a person dies in a foreign country, he or she is “repatriated” when his or her body is returned to their native country. Repatriation insurance is used for transportation expenses related to returning the deceased to their native country.
- Coverage of expenses associated with medical evacuation of the student to the home country of up to $10,000 USD.
- A deductible not to exceed $500 per accident or illness that meets other standards specified in the regulations.
Students are responsible for obtaining health insurance and keeping it updated.
Medical insurance does not include dental or vision services such as routine examinations and eyeglasses. It is highly recommended that you have your eyes and teeth cared for before coming to UST.
