The U.S. Department of Education awarded the School of Education a $2.8 million Title V Grant to fund the Promoting Postbaccalaureate Opportunities for Hispanic Americans (PPOHA) Program. The purpose of the grant is to implement programs to achieve parity among Hispanic graduate students and other underrepresented groups in retention and graduation rates.

The four-year MUSE grant aims to increase the number of highly qualified special education teachers to work with English Language Learners with disabilities from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. If accepted into the program, scholars will receive full tuition paid by the grant. |

Oct 27, 2006 World Affairs Council of Houston Names University of St. Thomas Students Global Ambassadors The World Affairs Council of Houston recently named Center for International Studies students Raul David Avalos and Philippe Nassif as Global Ambassadors. The Global Ambassadors initiative for the 2006-2007 academic year was launched to bring some of the most outstanding college students to 6th-12th grade classrooms to speak about their experiences abroad. The goal of the program is to expand middle school and high school students’ knowledge of world cultures through a first-person presentation. Sep 21, 2006 French Scholarship Funds Study Abroad Annie Polo and Lin Cheng, junior International Studies majors, have received the French Endowed Scholarship which grants both students $2,000 for this fall semester and $1,300 each for Spring. At the end of last year Alliance Française awarded Polo a $3,000 scholarship to study abroad in France over the summer. She was one of six Houston university students, and the only student from St. Thomas, to win this scholarship award. |
