10/22/2011

Irving EscobedoUST was back at home for the final match of a four-game home stand against Bacone College in Oklahoma.  This would mark the first time these two teams have faced off, and both teams came out strong. UST controlled possession, but found it difficult to break through the Bacone defense. Finally, in the 30th minute, Junior Irving Escobedo (#22), broke the tie and pounced on a pass from Omar Alonso (#10) and blasted it past Bacone goalkeeper, H. Hill. The teams went into halftime with UST up 1-0. The shot count was 10-5 in favor of the Celts.

UST struck quickly for the second game in a row to open the second half with Junior Jack Brett (#16), who blasted a free kick in the upper corner from about 28 yards. The game stayed at 2-0 for UST until the 88th minute when Freshman Delano Foster (#8) scored his fourth goal of the year.

The Celts won their 5th game in a row and moved to 7-3 in conference play. The game put UST in 4th place in the Red River Athletic Conference. Alonso moved into the lead for assists with 7 in the RRAC.

Next up, the Celts will take a short break from conference play to face UH-Victoria on Thursday, Oct. 27. Then, UST will wrap up regular season and RRAC play when they face Wiley College for Senior Night on Oct. 30, back at the Houston Amateur Sports Park at 6 p.m.
