UST Music Debuts 'Sunday Afternoon'
11/1/2012

Logo: Music DeptThe University of St. Thomas Music Department and Music Preparatory School will treat the community to the debut performance of the "Sunday Afternoon String Quartet Concert" at 1 p.m. on Nov. 4 in UST’s Cullen Hall, 4001 Mt. Vernon.

The event is in the early afternoon, just in time for families to enjoy melodious music after Sunday morning activities.

The program will feature the powerful “String Quartet No.3” by Dmitri Shostakovich, which he calls "The War Quartet." Also featured is a movement of the mature “String Quartet No.23” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, as well as Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy's tumultuous “String Quartet No.6 op.80,” which is the last piece he wrote before his untimely death.

Concert performers are MPS faculty members Dominika Dancewicz on the violin, Juliette Javaheri on the violin, Dawson White on the viola and Patrick Moore on the cello.

Paul Krystofiak, director of MPS, said he is thrilled to present the faculty in this recital.

“We are blessed with very accomplished musicians in the Music Preparatory School and proud to present them in our first faculty string quartet,” Krystofiak said. “Many students, from these instructors, participate in our six summer programs and are full-year students in the school. We also have an inaugural MPS String Orchestra scheduled for later this month.”

Attendees will learn more about the context of this powerful, passionate and highly-narrative music during a short description before each piece. Friends and families are invited to enjoy this musical medley.

The event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Ann Harlan at rsvpmusic@stthom.edu or 713-525-3159.
