UST Welcomes Graduate Director
8/8/2013

The University of St. Thomas search for a director of graduate admissions is over and the University welcomes Robert Stephens to lead the new office. Stephens previously worked at the University of Central Florida, where he served as the assistant director of graduate student services for the College of Nursing.

“UST is appealing as a small, private school that is looking to make a name for itself,” Stephens said. “I knew during the interview process that UST was the perfect place for my career in higher education to prosper. The deans, staff and administration are very supportive of the new position.”

Stephens earned a bachelor's in organizational communication and a Master of Nonprofit Management from University of Central Florida in Orlando, Fla. His background is marked with a dedication and passion for student support in higher education, and his 10-year career has evolved to allow him to serve in several capacities. His experience working in adult online education, registrar’s office, graduate and undergraduate student services, advising and records retention has allowed him to work well with multiple departments and give him a broader understanding of the admissions and advising processes.

“We created the Office of Graduate Admissions to assist the Deans and Directors with the pre-admission process,” said Vickie Alleman, vice president for Marketing Communications and Enrollment Management. “Robert’s expertise in graduate programs has given him the background and expertise to assist us in setting up this procedure.”

The Office of Graduate Admissions will centralize some of the functions of the inquiry and application process for graduate programs at UST. The purpose is to bring efficiency to the University admissions processes and provide a quicker turnaround on communications to prospective students, who are often researching several universities before sending in an application.

“My main goal is to develop a uniform graduate admissions process,” Stephens said. “I am hopeful that all decisions that are made in my office are efficient with the student’s best interest in mind.”
