3rd Alumni Taco Tasting to Raise Scholarships
Thanks to the overwhelming support of UST alumni and friends, Two Saints and a Taco Tasting general tickets are sold out, but $100 VIP tickets and event sponsorships are still available.
Alumni can’t wait for the third year of the mouth-watering scholarship fundraiser, Two Saints and a Taco Tasting, to be held at 6:30-9:30 p.m. on April 24 at St. Arnold Brewing Co.
This popular event brings together some of Houston’s best restaurants for a taco tasting competition in combination with the taps of Texas’ oldest craft brewery.
In a people’s choice competition, guests can judge delicious taco entries from local restaurants: El Tiempo Cantina, Escalantes, Hearsay Gastro Lounge, La Tapatia, Maria Selma’s, St. Arnold, Tacos-A-Go-Go, Otilia’s Mexican Restaurant and more. The Chocolate Bar and alumnus Tino Ramirez return to provide desserts.
There will also be a taco award based on the discerning tastes of celebrity judges.
Alumnus Walter Suhr ’89 and Mango Punch! will provide live music in their high-energy Latin style, so it won’t be a surprise if there’s salsa on the dance floor in addition to the tacos.
Plus, the event will once again feature great silent auction items to bid on in saintly themes.
Event committee chair Aaron Stryk ’01 said alumni should attend this year because each event is different and unique from the one before.
“It’s something very ‘outside of the box’ and unorthodox for an alumni event, but clearly a winning formula, given its popularity and the huge turnout each year,” Stryk said. “Plus, it’s a great opportunity to not only see so many fellow UST alumni from years’ past, but to also give back to the school while having fun in the process.”
The proceeds benefit the Alumni Association Scholarship Fund. Last year, Two Saints raised $35,000, which was awarded to nine students. This year, the goal is to raise $40,000 for deserving UST students.
Stryk said Two Saints is part of the vision to create an active, vibrant alumni community that takes pride in its alma mater and continues to grow and give back.
“In addition to helping those students who truly need the scholarships to reach the finish line, graduate and accomplish their goals, we hope it serves as an example to current students that there really is fellowship and tradition on ‘the other side!’” Stryk said. “And hey, who doesn’t like all-you-can eat tacos and beer?”
