Celts Go 1-3 at Loyola Tournament
The Lady Celts traveled to New Orleans for the Loyola University Tournament Oct. 7-9 weekend. The Celts went into the tournament on a strong streak winning five of their last six games, but could not keep the momentum going over the weekend.

The Celts played Belhaven in the first match on Friday, Oct. 7. The Lady Celts got off to a slow start that gave Belhaven the momentum to push to a 3-0 victory, 19-25, 16-25, 18-25. Regina Trapp led the Celts with 12 kills while Stephanie Biediger chipping in 9 of her own.

Next up on was No. 17 ranked Missouri Baptist. The Celts came out on fire in game 1 before a late push by Missouri Baptist. Games 2 and 3 where more of the same. The Lady Celts fought hard but just could not push through at the end of games. The Celts lost the match 3-0, 16-25, 16-25, 21-25. Stephanie Biediger lead the Celts with 9 kills and Regina Trapp and Evon Welch chipped in with 7 kills each.

On Saturday, the Celts started out with the host squad of Loyola. The match went back and forth all three games with no team having more then a 5-point lead at any time. In the end, Loyola made the plays down the stretch of every game to win 3-0, 24-26, 23-25, 22-25. Evon Welch led the way with 14 kills while Brittany Downs had 18 digs.

The last match of the tournament saw the Lady Celts get back in the win column with a 3-0 victory over Huston-Tillotson 25-11, 25-20, 25-18. The Celts defense stepped up allowing only 12 kills by Huston-Tillotson in three games. Stephanie Biediger posted 9 kills with a .900 hitting percentage. The Lady Celts are now 12-9 with another busy four match week starting with a conference home match at 7 p.m., on Thursday, Oct. 13 against Huston-Tillotson before hitting the road for three matches at Bacone.
