Crossroads Unravels Truth, Politics
Graphic: CrosswordsThe Crossroads Cultural Center-Houston, along with the University of St. Thomas Office of Academic Affairs and Center for Business Ethics, will host the conference “Economy, Politics and the Desire for Happiness” at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 25 in Anderson Hall, Room 103.

The speakers are Anujeet Sareen, a marketing strategist with a leading U.S. investment firm in Boston, Mass, and Kimberly Shankman, the dean at Benedictine College in Atchinson, Kan.

They will discuss how to rediscover the ideal dimension of politics and economics and remind people that these two ideas are ultimately about the desire for happiness, freedom, truth and justice. Sareen and Shankman will unravel why many people today have the perception that their economic and political destinies are in the hands of powerful forces far removed from them, which they have little or no control over.

The speakers will also address topics such as how we can start to rebuild our society, whether or not we should leave this to experts and bureaucrats and from where do we recover the courage to go into reality as protagonists and not as spectators.

“The timely topic and goal of Crossroads is worthy: to offer opportunities for education for people who have a passion for knowledge,” said Dr. Michele Simms, director of the Center for Business Ethics in the Cameron School of Business. “Our Center for Business Ethics views ethics in all things and welcomed the chance to co-host a conversation that invites us to think critically about the role of human desire in politics and the economy.”

The event is free and open to the public, and refreshments will be provided after the conference. For more information, call 713-525-2164.
