Seniors Victorious in Last Home Game
Three seniors on the men’s basketball team − Ivan Earls, Anthony Medina and Melvin Roberts – ended their final home game with a 75-46 victory against the Patriots of Arlington Baptist University. After an emotional tribute before the game, the three seniors got the Celts off to an early lead. Earls started the scoring with a bucket and free throw followed by Melvin Roberts three-pointer. Anthony Medina got on the senior scoring train with a driving hoop of his own. All three contributed in the first five minutes to push the Celts out to an early 8 point lead.

They closed the gap to 2 before another 10-2 run pushed the lead back to 8. The Celts closed the half on a small run aided by strong defense which gave them a 38-26 half-time lead.

The second half was much like the first. Strong defense led to 19 Patriot turnovers and held them to just 34 percent shooting. An early run by the Celts stretched the margin out to a 20 point lead with long range 3’s by Medina, Bryan Kaase, and Jeremy Lewis. The Patriots had no answer for the swarming Celts defense and 50 percent shooting.

The Celts 75-46 victory capped the season sweep of the Patriots. The victory pushed the Celts record to 13-10, winners of 6 of their last 7, and 4 in a row. The Celts were led in scoring by senior Anthony Medina with 16. Three other Celts chipped in with double digits, Jeremy Lewis 12, Caleb Williams 11 and Bryan Kaase 10. The Celts will play Xavier and the University of New Orleans in New Orleans on Feb. 22 and Feb. 23.
