International Studies Students Present Research at Conference
Photo: International Studies StudentsThirteen international studies and international development majors from UST presented their senior thesis research at the April 7 annual meeting of the Southwest International Studies Association (SISA) held in conjunction with the Southwest Social Science Association.

“For more than a decade, students within the Center for International Studies have presented their research at the SISA meeting as a ‘capstone to the capstone’ senior thesis that is required of international studies and development majors,” said Dr. Hans Stockton, Center director.

Students are required to submit abstracts for review and competitive selection for participation in the conference. Various and wide-ranging topics demonstrated the interdisciplinary nature of international studies and showcased the ability of students educated at UST to conduct research, engage in scholarly writing and present their findings to a professional audience.

Students presented research on developing an impact assessment for fair trade coffee, Turkish accession to the European Union, field work in social entrepreneurship, hegemonic transition and cross-cultural perceptions of human rights.

The undergraduate panels are chaired and discussed by faculty from across the region.

This annual experience is made possible in part by support from the Undergraduate Research Committee and friends in the community.
