UST Named Among Best Colleges

The Princeton Review 2014 West logoUniversity of St. Thomas was named a “Best College in the West for 2014” by The Princeton Review. The Princeton Review recognizes colleges and universities that stand out within each region. University of St. Thomas is one of 124 colleges chosen for its “Best in the West” list. Collectively, 643 colleges named “regional best” constitute about 25 percent of the nation’s 2,500 four-year colleges.

"We’re pleased to recommend these colleges to users of our site as the best schools to earn their undergrad degrees," said Robert Franek, The Princeton Review senior vice president/publisher.  “We chose these as our ‘regional best’ colleges mainly for their excellent academic programs. From several hundred schools in each region, we winnowed our list based on institutional data we collected directly from the schools, our visits to schools over the years, and the opinions of our staff, plus college counselors.  We also take into account what students at the schools report to us.”

In the online profile on The Princeton Review website feature, “2014 Best Colleges: Region by Region,” students voiced their opinions. The Princeton Review asked 126,000 students attending the schools to rate their own schools on several issues – from the accessibility of their professors to quality of the campus food – and answer questions about themselves, their fellow students and their campus life.

Two students commented on UST’s diverse and friendly community.

“We have commuters, homeschoolers, varsity players, introverts, perfectionists, clubbers – and they all interact quite well,” one student said. “Indeed, friendliness is the name of the game at UST.”

A sophomore said, “Fitting in for any type of student is as easy as walking up to a friend and striking up a conversation.”

Yes, there are many Catholics here (“It is a Catholic school, after all”), many who are “conservative,” and many who “come from wealthy families.” But rest assured that “diversity is welcomed, embraced, and celebrated” at the University of St. Thomas, as other students expressed.
