Lady Celts Go 1-3 at Texas Wesleyan Tournament
The Lady Celts volleyball team travelled to Fort Worth for the Texas Wesleyan Volleyball Tournament Friday and Saturday, Sept. 16-17. First up for the Celts was Lubbock Christian University. The Lady Celts put up a good fight but dropped the match 3-0: 19-25, 22-25, 18-25. Kirsten Kubicek and Stephanie Biediger led the way with 10 kills each.

Next for the Celts was host school Texas Wesleyan. The 2 ½ hour marathon match saw both teams battle back from deficits in each set. No set was decided by more then two points. In the end, the Lady Rams made a few more plays then the Lady Celts winning the match 3-2: 25-23, 32-34, 25-27, 26-24, 13-15. The Lady Celts had three players in double figures for kills, Stephanie Biediger with 20 kills, Regina Trapp with 16 kills, and Lauren Curley with 13 kills. Brittany Downs led the defense with 29 digs.

On Saturday, the Lady Celts started out with Huston-Tillotson. Getting off to a great start, the Celts never looked back winning the match 3-0: 25-10, 25-6, 25-5. Freshman Middle Blocker Kylah Dias led the way with 11 kills followed by Lauren Curley with 8 Kills.

The last match of the tournament saw the Lady Celts take on Wayland Baptist. St. Thomas roared out in set 1 to an easy victory and then had to fight to stay in the match. Wayland Baptist found their form and defeated the Celts 3-1: 25-7, 23-25, 17-25, 14-25. Regina Trapp and Evon Welch led the Celts offense with 13 and 10 kills respectively. Brittany Downs once again paced the Celts defense with 31 digs.

The Celts are now 6-5 on the season with the start of Red River Conference play this Saturday, Sept. 24, when they travel to Hobbs, NM to face the University of the Southwest at 1 p.m. CST.
