Dini Appointed Interim VP of Institutional Advancement

Dick DiniExperienced fundraising consultant Dick Dini was appointed as the Interim Vice President for Institutional Advancement, effective Jan. 13. Dini, who founded Dini Partners in 1970, has served as a consultant for the University for two years, and is familiar with the University’s fundraising efforts.

Dini has extensive fundraising experience, including successful national campaigns with Harvard and Rice universities in the 1960s. He has guided capital campaigns at several Texas and national universities that have collectively raised $2 billion.

Dini has been honored as an Outstanding Fund Raising Executive by the Association of Fundraising Professionals and has been named a distinguished alumnus of Boston University.

"We are very fortunate we have Mr. Dick Dini available to step in as the Interim Vice President for Institutional Advancement,” UST President Dr. Robert Ivany said. “Dick is a highly respected advancement consultant who understands the Houston community and the University of St. Thomas' unique mission to educate leaders of faith and character."

Dini said he aims to expand support for the University among alumni, friends and the community.

“The University is growing,” Dini said. “It’s expanding into science, graduate programs and nursing. We’re laying the groundwork for additional major support.”
Dini said the University is integral to the city of Houston for developing a talented workforce.

“We need to generate enough talent to serve the growing community,” he said. “This University has a great quality of life, and the young people have interaction with faculty. It’s a values-driven university, and that makes it unique.”

He said the Basilian Fathers have set a strong tradition of education, which continues to be carried out as UST strives to be one of the nation's great Catholic universities within the next 25 years.  “What’s happening now at this university can make a great difference in the future,” he said.

Dini was appointed to fill the vacancy left by H. Ken DeDominicis, who served as the vice president for institutional advancement for nearly 13 years, and will now serve in the same capacity at the Catholic University of America.

Dini is part of the University committee that will conduct a national search for a permanent VPIA.
