Visit UST for CSB Alumni Week
The Cameron School of Business will host its Annual Alumni Week on March 11-16. All CSB graduates and students are invited to join in the activities for the week, including alumni class visits, a keynote speaker and luncheon, and speed networking.
During Alumni Week, CSB graduates have the opportunity to give back and enhance the current business student experience by sharing lessons and knowledge of their professional careers. Twenty-four alumni will speak to current undergraduate and graduate students in classes ranging from finance and economics to marketing and management. They will speak about their career experience and business concepts for the class.
Also, alumnus Joseph “Skip” Courtney ’73 will present the keynote address during a luncheon at noon on March 13 in Ahern Room, Crooker Center. He will speak about his background and what attracted him to UST, honing interview skills, and how students can use values learned at St. Thomas in the workplace.
“I come from an Irish-Catholic family, and a liberal arts education was essential to being a well-rounded person,” he said. “St. Thomas offers a broad-based education which really set the stage for my career.”
Courtney, the chief operating officer at Hospitalists Now, Inc. in Austin, Texas, which develops software that provides physicians with real time financial and clinical information. Courtney, with Hospitalists Now since 2010, helped grow the business from four to 22 hospitals and the company value from $11 million to $25 million in three years. He previously was on the CSB advisory board and said his time at UST helped him form lasting relationships and laid the foundation for his future.
“The college years are so critical,” he said. “One’s influences on life are rooted, and you begin your life. Some of my closest friends are from St. Thomas, and I still keep in touch with Dr. Barry Wilbratte. I would do anything I could for St. Thomas, and I enjoy sharing the benefits I derived from UST with students.”
The other featured event of the week is “Speed Networking” from 6-8 p.m. on March 14 in Ahern Room, Crooker Center. CSB and the Association of Latino Professionals for Finance and Accounting Speed Networking are hosting the event. Alumni will listen to the CSB students’ elevator pitches and give supportive critique feedback. This is a rare opportunity for students to practice pitching to experienced professionals and receive an insightful critique. Students should RSVP to www.stthom.edu/csbspeednetworking.
Alumni still interested in participating should RSVP today.
