Volleyball Signs Two Pearland Players
2/12/2013

With senior setter Brittany Weiler set to graduate this spring, the Celts added depth to their setter position with MacKenzie-Williams, while Castle joins a group of talented hitters. The newcomers have winning backgrounds and look to continue the theme at the collegiate level.

“Courtlyn and Elizabeth are both talented young players,” Noble said. “Both of these players have great work ethic and love the game of volleyball.”

Hitter Brings Energy on Court, Nursing Goals in Classroom

Castle is a physical, 5-foot-10-inch opposite hitter who will give the Celts a great deal of energy on the court.  She is a two-time First Team All-District player from Pearland High School who totaled 170 kills and 67 digs during her senior season. Along with the strong numbers put up in high school, Castle also has enjoyed an outstanding career playing for Houston Stellar Volleyball Club.

“I chose University of St. Thomas because of their prestigious nursing program,” Castle said. “The environment was very suitable for me individually, and I also wanted to play volleyball at the collegiate level. St. Thomas was a perfect fit.”

Setter Looks Forward to Four Years at UST

MacKenzie-Williams also is from the Lone Star State and she has spent time playing for Coach John Turner at Pearland High School. The 5-foot-7-inch high school senior averaged more than four assists per set along with 35 digs on the season. This past season, the Oilers went 41-6 and claimed the district title. MacKenzie-Williams teams up with Castle for the Houston Stellar Volleyball Club.

“Elizabeth has an athletic presence on the floor,” Noble said. “With her speed and understanding of running an offense, she has the potential to compete for the setting position. She is a player who has the desire to do whatever it takes to be better every time she steps out on the court.”

MacKenzie-Williams focused on volleyball, but was wowed by UST’s academic programs as well.

“I choose University of St. Thomas due to its competitive volleyball program, but also because of the excellent marketing department,” MacKenzie-Williams said. “The campus has a welcoming feel and I am looking forward to the next four years at UST.”

The ladies will join a team that regards scholarly achievements as highly as accolades on the court. Read about the past season under Women's Volleyball Latest News
