Lenten Lectures Address Challenges to the Church

For 25 years, Wednesdays in Lent have been highlighted by a series of lectures at the University of St. Thomas. This year’s theme, “Challenges to the Catholic Church,” enriches the understanding of the many facets of the Catholic Church.

The lecture series is free and open to the public. The lectures will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesdays from March 5 through April 9.

March 5: “Mindfulness of God’s Abiding Presence in a Busy Life”
Lecturer: Dr. John Froula, visiting assistant professor of theology
Location: Cullen Hall, 4001 Mt. Vernon

March 12: “Religious Freedom, Freedom of Conscience: The Coming Perfect Storm”
Lecturer: Dr. Randall Smith, professor and Scanlan Foundation Endowed Chair in    theology
Location: Cullen Hall, 4001 Mt. Vernon

March 19: “’Gay Marriage’: Logic, Rhetoric, and Reality”
Lecturer: Dr. Rollen Edward Houser, professor and Bishop Nold Chair in graduate philosophy
Location: Cullen Hall, 4001 Mt. Vernon

March 26: “The Challenge of Discipleship in the 21st Century”
Lecturer: Thomas Cardinal Collins, Archbishop of Toronto
Location: Cullen Hall, 4001 Mt. Vernon

April 2: “Texting from the Edge of the Abyss”
Lecturer: Dr. Tom Harmon, assistant professor of theology
Location: Cullen Hall, 4001 Mt. Vernon

April 9: “Pauline Path of Discipleship: The Crisis of the Two Gospels in the Letter to Galatians”
Lecturer: Fr. Dempsey Rosales Acosta, assistant professor of theology
Location: Anderson Hall 103, 4000 Mt. Vernon
