Sindelar Reappointed to Houston Export Council

Exports are vital to the growth of the U.S economy, never more so than now in an internationally connected world. Richard Sindelar, assistant professor at the Center for International Studies, said in turn, economic growth promotes jobs and reduces unemployment. To support job opportunities here in Houston, Sindelar was reappointed for another four year term to the Houston District Export Council as a council member.

Sindelar serves on two committees. He advices and consults with companies on political-economic factors in countries to which a small to medium-sized enterprises might be looking to export in the Counseling Committee of The Houston DEC.

“I also serve on the Education Committee, which puts together training and advisory programs such as Export University for businesses to learn export rules,” Sindelar said. “On the Education Committee, I also am Chair of the Scholarship subcommittee, which seeks to grant scholarships to business students whose studies focus on trade and exporting.”

Penny Pritzker, U.S. Commerce Secretary, appointed 21 Houston-area business professionals to the Houston District Export Counsel. Closely affiliated with U.S. Department of Commerce’s U.S. Commercial Service, District Export Councils are organizations of business leaders whose members volunteer their time to help educate small and midsize businesses on various export related topics.

Houston DEC serves 33 counties in Southeast Texas. Its members and associate members represent an extensive array of manufacturers, service companies, export facilitators, educators, professional advisors and government agencies. The mission of the DEC is to help foster U.S. economic growth and create American jobs by stimulating and facilitating the export of goods and services from companies located in Southeast Texas.

Sindelar said exports support economic growth, which promotes jobs and unemployment, so he is happy to assist in any way he can to build job opportunities here in Houston.

Arun M. Kumar, Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Global Markets and Director General of the U.S. and Foreign Commercial Service said Texas is a major contributor to American business with $279.7 billion in merchandise exports last year—a record level for the state. “I congratulate the new members of the Houston DEC.”
