Law School Coop Agreement Accepts First Four Students
6/27/2007

Robin Hunter, Erin McClarty, Roy Mitchell, Ciro SamperiFour University of St. Thomas seniors Robin Hunter, Erin McClarty, Roy Mitchell and Ciro Samperi (pictured left to right) will attend South Texas College of Law next fall as part of a cooperative admission program with UST.

“STCL and UST honored the first St. Thomas students admitted to STCL under the STCL/UST Cooperative Admission Program,” said Prelaw Advisor and University Political Science Professor Rick Young. “The students have honored our schools by their excellent scholarship and years of hard work.”

This spring, to recognize their formal acceptance, a dinner was held in the Fred Park Library at STCL for the candidates and their families, alumni who have graduated from both schools, faculty and administrators from both institutions, the Prelaw Advising Committee and UST students interested in attending South Texas.

The banquet concludes a four-part, year-long admission process that begins in October. Young submits the names of senior prelaw students interested in attending STCL. These students must then submit a resume, transcript and a letter requesting consideration. Their dossiers are considered jointly by the UST Prelaw Advising Committee and the assistant dean and either affirmed or rejected. This process continues until candidates are approved to go forward with the process. Candidates must take the LSAT by the fall (September/October) test date.

During December, oral interviews are scheduled for the students before the Prelaw Advising Committee sitting en banc with a representative from the law school. After completing the interviews, the committee recommends candidates for cooperative admission.

By Jan. 15, the students’ applications for admission to South Texas are transmitted to its assistant dean of Admissions.

In February or March, a dinner to recognize formal acceptance of the candidates is sponsored by South Texas College of Law.

“Congratulations, Robin, Erin, Roy and Ciro, for leading the way,” said Young.
