UST Professor Attends Business and Liberal Arts Symposium
8/8/2007
Associate Professor for the Cameron School of Business Dr. Michele Simms was one of 24 faculty members from independent colleges across the nation who participated in the Council of Independent Colleges’ second conference on liberal arts and business education, formally titled the Symposium on Business and Liberal Arts: Integrating Professional and Liberal Education. During the conference Simms informed other participants about the diverse range of programs UST utilizes in combining liberal arts with business education and, along with other participants, helped recognize integrated programs that could serve as examples to other colleges looking to merge these two areas of study.
“In small break-out sessions, I was able to share the variety of programs we offer that link the business school with the liberal arts mission, such as service learning, Catholic studies, the social justice minor, undergraduate research, MBA ethics concentration and our study abroad opportunities. I also noted that the Center for International Studies, Faith and Culture and the Center for Business Ethics provide unique and additional opportunities to join business education with the liberal arts core,” Simms said.
The CIC originally held a symposium on liberal arts and business in 2003 to address the declining number of students graduating with liberal arts degrees.
