GHBER Scholarship Winner Announced
Boris Po-Hon Liu is this year’s recipient of a $2000 scholarship from the Greater Houston Business Ethics Roundtable (GHBER). UST’s Center for Business Ethics worked with GHBER to create this scholarship to be given to a UST MBA student who shows a genuine commitment to ethics. Liu’s own words show how serious he is about protecting the environment.
“I have a longstanding interest in sustainability,” Liu said. “Once a full time conservationist in the environmental field, I conducted research on a domestic carnivore-- fossa - Cryptoprocta ferox-- with Earthwatch volunteers and with a fossa research team from Duke University in Madagascar.”
As a student, Liu continues his work to preserve the environment, by volunteering at the Houston Audubon Society. He says UST’s MBA program has given him a wonderful opportunity to combine business and environmental knowledge.
“The university’s focus on social responsibility and business ethics has highlighted how today’s business is moving toward a higher level of social consciousness,” Liu said. “Ideas concerning environmental awareness, sustainable development, and corporate citizenship are being incorporated into the enterprise culture of many industries.”
Liu credits Dr. Michele Simm’s Business and the Social Environment class for giving him new insight into organizational behavior as it relates to his environmental background.
“I greatly appreciate receiving the GHBER scholarship. As a citizen of global enterprise, I will commit myself to work to promote better business ethics in my future interactions with businesspeople and business organizations,” says Liu.
The GHBER/Bette Stead Ethics Scholarship is open to all MBA students with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher, who have already completed 15 hours toward their degree.
